Abstract
Dear Sir, I read with great interest the review paper entitled “Advances in alloimmune thrombocytopenia: perspectives on current concepts of human platelet antigens, antibody detection strategies, and genotyping” by Hayashi T et al., which was published recently in Blood Transfusion1. Certainly, the paper perfectly reviews the ongoing progress in the field of platelet antigen genotyping and platelet antibody detection. However, Table III inadvertently omits the single antigen magnetic bead assay (SAMBA) that we have recently developed using tag engineered recombinant soluble GPIIIa-1a or -1b2. In addition, antigen capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays using whole recombinant GPIIIa-1a or -1b has previously been used and shown reactivity with the corresponding antibodies3. Adding these assays to the table would, therefore, be useful to give readers a wider view of all assays that can be used for the detection of antibodies to human platelet antigens.
