Abstract
Introduction: Platelet-activating factor [1-O-alkyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine; PAF] is a unique and novel signaling phospholipid which has pleiotropic reproductive properties in addition to platelet activation. PAF plays a significant role in spermatozoa motility, fertilization and implantation. PAF content in spermatozoa has a positive relationship to pregnancy outcome (Fertil & Steril 2000; in press). Whereas exogenous PAF has been used to enhance human fertilization potential, there are no reports on the use of exogenous PAF to enhance pregnancy outcome.
