Abstract

(N Engl J Med. 2018;379:32–43) In the present study, the authors evaluated platelet counts in women (15 to 44 y of age) who delivered at the Oklahoma University Medical Center between 2011 and 2014. Their objectives were to (1) evaluate the potential severity of gestational thrombocytopenia (<150,000 platelets/mm3 at the time of delivery) in uncomplicated pregnancies and risk for recurrence, (2) determine whether there was a relationship between identified pregnancy complications and platelet counts, and (3) ascertain associations between preexisting disorders and thrombocytopenia and any impact on pregnancy course.
