Abstract

We discuss the performance of two hexahedral elements whose interpolation functions are based on the Papcovitch-Neuber solution to the Navier equation. We test these elements in flat plate and curved shell example problems. These elements, which do not take recourse to any extra-variational techniques, provide solutions which closely match the known solutions. We conclude that these solid elements can be used in situations where out-of-plane loading situations are predominant.
