Abstract

This report identifies 50 editorial platforms for electronic journals from Spanish universities and CSIC (Spanish National Research Council). Quantitative data are provided on the number of journals published, their life and upgrade, disciplines covered, number of articles edited in 2019, types of journals by size, percentage of texts in English, number of co-edition cases, indexation in Web of Science and Scopus databases, as well as the number of journals that have obtained the Fecyt Quality seal. The editorial production of the Spanish universities and CSIC is dispersed in numerous titles with a small number of articles, a problem increased by the continuous appearance of new titles. These journals focus especially on disciplines of Social Sciences and Humanities. The current situation shows that practically half of the journals on these platforms are selected in one of the citation indexes (especially in ESCI, a secondary database within WoS), but only a quarter of them have obtained the Fecyt Quality seal. From the analysis, some recommendations are derived for the improvement of institutional portals for their periodicals.
