Abstract

1. A new deformation model which explains the effect of grain boundary strengthening in polycrystalline metals is proposed which is based on the significant role of grain orientation. 2. An analytical expression is obtained for the coefficient Ky which can be used to explain practically all of the known characteristics of plastic deformation in polycrystalline metals, and can also explain the mechanism by which impurity atoms affect grain boundary strengthening.
