Abstract
The plastic deformation of metals during the removal of a surface layer is considered. Kinematically admissible velocity fields containing rigid zones with both translational and rotational motion are constructed. Formulas for force calculations are obtained. The possibility of nonstationary deformation is analyzed. Data on the power consumed for local fracture are presented.
