Abstract

In the present paper the yielding behaviour of a highly cross-linked polyaminobismaleimide thermoset resin is reported. Through a thermodynamic and kinetic analyses of the elementary activated deformation event it is shown that, over the entire temperature range 150 K < T < 460 K, the deformation mode is the same as the low temperature, high strain rate mode observed below the critical temperature T c in amorphous glassy thermoplastics. This mechanism can be pictured as dislocation glide behaviour.
