Abstract

The emission of light scalars and pseudo-scalars (axion-like particles) coupled to the chromo/electric field from a QCD/QED plasma at high temperature and very high density is studied in detail. The calculation is then applied to the SN1987A event for which new bounds on the Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking scale f a are derived, f a ≳ 3 × 10 9 GeV in presence of a quark-gluon core and f a ≳ 10 7 GeV, which is the same bound as the one obtained from red giant stars, by considering axion emission from the electron gas.
