Abstract

Background: Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a rare aggressive subtype of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, which is characterized by a diffuse propagation of large neoplastic cells resembling B cells. PBL is most frequently associated with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-positive patients and primarily affects the oral cavity. Trends have shown an increase of reported PBL cases in immunocompetent patients. The clinical presentation of PBL may mimic other dental pathologies thus delaying diagnosis and worsening prognosis.
