Abstract

A plasma-filled diode, a model of a vircator or a split-cavity oscillator, is treated as a highly nonlinear dynamical system. It is shown that depending on the separation of the electrodes xL and the initial ion/electron ratio α the system may exhibit a cascade of bifurcations leading to chaos. Earlier results for α=l have been extended lo values of α≠ I.
