Abstract

Plasma dialysates from 72-hour sleep-deprived and control rabbits were studied for their effects on sleep-related brain electrical activity in rats and rabbits and on ambulatory activity in mice. Heparinized plasma samples separated from blood obtained by cardiac puncture were separately dialyzed against distilled water. The dialysates were lyophilized and quantitatively reconstituted in small volumes of distilled water for intravenous injections. Our results failed to show any sleep-promoting effects for the reconstituted plasma dialysates from sleep-deprived rabbits.
