Abstract

In women fasted for 84–90 hours during week 16–22 of gestation, the concentration of human chorionic somatomammotropin (HCS) in maternal plasma increased by 30–40%. The level of HCS in amniotic fluid obtained after 90 hours of starvation did not differ from that observed in non-fasted subjects.
