Abstract

Recently, there has been intense interest in the role of plasma lipid transfer proteins in lipoprotein metabolism. It has been postulated that a cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) plays a key role in “reverse cholesterol transport” by modulating the transfer of CE from high density lipoprotein (HDL) to chylomicrons, very low density lipoprotein (VLDL), lipoprotein remnants and low density lipoprotein (LDL).-’-These lipoprotein acceptors transport the CE to the liver. On the other hand, these CE acceptor lipoproteins are considered atherogenic particles and thus this CE transfer process could conceivably enhance atherosclerosis.KeywordsCholesteryl EsterTransfer ProteinCholesteryl Ester Transfer ProteinTransfer ActivityLipid Transfer ProteinThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
