Abstracto1.Brachial vein total and diffusible plasma calcium levels were measured at 4-hr intervals throughout the formation of one egg in 12 hens synchronous in their layingcycle. Significant (P<0·05) changes in both forms of plasma calcium werenoted between the first samples which were taken shortly after ovulation and the last samples taken 24 hr later.2.A comparison of calcium levels in brachial vs. uterine veins of (a) laying hens not forming an egg, (b) hens forming an egg but not calcifying and (c) hens calcifying an egg showed lower levels in uterine vein plasma in all cases. Diffusible calcium was significantly (P<0·05) lower in cases (b) and (c) while total calcium was significantly (P<0·05) lower only in case (c).
