Abstract

Individuals of Radula uvifera can be divided into two groups. Radula uvifera sens. str. produces amentulose branches infrequently and has long perianths with the mouth not ventrally folded, with 3–8 straight lamellae that are not jagged in relief on either surface. Radula pseudoscripta produces amentulose branches regularly at bases of alternate leaf pairs and has squat perianths with a ventrally folded mouth, with 5–14 lamellae that are sinuous for at least part of their length and jagged in relief on either surface. Morphological variation in this constellation of characters is discontinuous. Radula multicarinata is a homotypic synonym of Radula uvifera and is retained in synonymy of R. uvifera. A new species, Radula pseudoscripta, is proposed for the multicarinate plants. Both species are endemic to New Zealand.
