Abstract

A comprehensive discussion of toxic plants and their effects upon the human organism is presented. Sections include emergency and supportive care following toxic plant ingestion, gastrointestinal irritants, plants which produce cardiovascular disturbances, nicotine-like effects, atropine-like effects, central nervous system effects, cyanogenetic, hepatic damaging plants, and a discussion of mushroom poisoning. The text is illustrated by clear line drawings of the toxic plants discussed. Chemical formulas of specific toxins are presented where they are known. References are extensive and reasonably current (to 1965). This is an unusually handsome publication, well-conceived, organized, and written.
