Abstract

Abstract Costelytra zealandica larvae feeding on roots of Lotus pedunculatus gained significantly less weight than those feeding on a L. pedunculatus × L. corniculatus hybrid, or on other Lotus and Trifolium species. Among cultivars of Lotus pedunculatus, body-weight gains and survival rates were significantly lower under ‘Grasslands 4704’ and ‘Grasslands 4705’ (Maku tetraploid) than under ‘Grasslands 4703’. Weight gains and survival rates of C. zealandica larvae feeding on ‘Lupinus angustijolius’ (blue lupin) were significantly lower than those of larvae feeding on ‘Trifolium pratense’ (red clover),
