Abstract

A survey was conducted to determine the plant parasitic nematode population density in maize fields of 18 farmers of western Chitwan during summer of 2002. Soil and root samples were taken from ten points diagonally from each field. Seven different genera of plant parasitic nematodes were associated with maize. Of them, Pratylenchus, Meloidogyne and Hirschmanniella were endoparasitic, while Xiphinema, Tylenchorhynchus, Helicotylenchus and Hoplolaimus were exoparasitic nematodes. Pratylenchus was found the highest in number in both root and soil samples followed by Meloidogyne and Xiphinema. J. Inst. Agric. Anim. Sci. 25:79-80 2004
