Abstract

Severn Trent Water provides vital water services to a population of over 8 million people in over 20 thousand square kilometres in the centre of England. Severn Trent Water own and operate of the order of 640 service reservoirs, 1000 sewage works, 2,200 Sewage Pumping Stations, 25 surface water treatment works, 670 water supply booster stations, 175 Groundwater Sources and over 90 thousand kilometres of underground mains and sewers. A Study was made of the plant monitoring and control issues which resulted in a business case for a telemetry system to provide remote monitoring and control of 3650 installations. The Paper describes the business case methodology and the project management techniques used to define, design and implement the system.
