Abstract

Renewal shoot (“bottom break”) formation in rose plants was affected by the temperature and relative humidity in the greenhouse. The number of shoots and the rate of their renewal were significantly higher in plants grown in a greenhouse cooled by evaporative coolers then in an uncooled greenhouse. A decrease in renewal shoot formation occurred which reduced light intensity above the stem base. This phenomenon was also observed in defoliated plants.
