Abstract

A general understanding of plant morphology and associated terminology, coupled with the ability to use plant keys, should enable students to identify previously unknown plants in a rapid and efficient manner. A slide/tape program, entitled “Plant Key Usage,” has been developed to help students learn to use bifurcated plant keys. Four weed species are keyed, using portions of the plant keys found in Weeds of the North Central States (Univ. of Illinois Agric. Exp. Stn. Bull. 281, 1981). This slide/tape program should be most useful in weed identification courses, but may also prove valuable in other courses where use of keys for plant identification is necessary.
