Abstract

Abstract Plants deploy a number of defences against herbivore and insect attack. A primary defence is the production of toxins to poison the attackers. Other strategies include the development of thorns and tough unpalatable tissue to deter herbivores, and the recruitment of parasitoids and predators that attack herbivores.
