Abstract
The vegetation of a protected area in the southern desert of Bahrain island was studied. A total of 53 species was identified. Of these, 31 were perennials and 22 were annuals. Based on species dominance, seven community types were recognised. These were dominated by Zygophyllum qatarense, Heliotropium crispum, Panicum turgidum, Leptadenia pyrotechnica, Sporobolus arabicus, Pennisetum divisum and Helianthemum kahiricum. Distribution of community types in relation to landforms and soil was also investigated.
