Abstract

The work to be discussed here will focus on three main areas. The first concerns the selective expression of specific genes, regulated according to what type of cells they are in (tissue- and cell-specific expression) and according to which temporal stage of development has been reached. The second considers the expression of genes that control developmental switching and the determination of cell, tissue and organ fate, these being the preconditions for tissue- and cell-specific gene expression. The third briefly reviews the question of the control and regulation of gene activity by hormonal factors.
