Abstract

A complex automation project was brought to successful completion when 236,018 Government Printing Office (GPO) cataloging records (purchased from Marcive, Inc.) and 382,792 copy statements were loaded into the library system at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Since that time, regularly scheduled loads of current GPO cataloging records have occurred. This article describes the planning process, important decision points, the scope and complexity of the local programming, and efforts taken to maintain and improve database quality.
