Abstract

For a country of the size and population of India, the Satellite technology in the domestic communication network assumes a great significance. The introduction of DOMSAT system in India has been highly conducive to the expansion of telecommunication services to the far-reaches of the country, through large scale installation of small earth stations, providing voice and/or non-voice services. A number of measures are under consideration for adoption in future configurations of small earth station terminals, making the installations cost effective, reliable and competitive compared to other modes of communication. Exponential increase in the provision of very small earth Station terminals for transmission of low bit rate data links, thereby, providing services in the nature of message transfer, is visualised. Varied procedures are being adopted for financing the projects for the provision of small earth station terminals for public and business communication requirements.
