Abstract

In studying primary distribution systems necessary for feeding a given area, there is a variety of circuit configurations that could be analyzed. In this paper useful equations for determining future feed points are derived for grid and diamond load areas as a function of load density, conductor size and primary distribution voltage level. The formulas developed are based on the primary voltage drop of the main feeder and laterals between the substation feed point and the last distribution transformer. The simulation results are needed in order to illustrate the fundamental relationship between different electrical and geometric parameters and their impact on the distribution feeder size and area fed. Each circuit layout has its own merits for a particular set of circumstances and the comparative advantages are evident from the curves obtained.
