Abstract

This paper presents a methodology for the optimal meter placement in real-time power distribution systems monitoring with state estimation (SE), taking into account aspects such as observability; absence of critical data; possible changes in the network configuration. It is shown that this problem is considered as a tree vertex cover problem and can be solved in O(n) polynomial time. To accomplish this task, a simple, practical value and constructive Heuristic for RTUs and Measurements Planning (HRMP) algorithm that consider inherent characteristics of the meter placement problem is proposed. Simulation results show a reduction of up to 5 units of remote transmission in the 37-B system with topology reconfiguration, when compared with the solution obtained by metaheuristic Genetic algorithm, resulting in a reduction cost (up to 20.4 %) of the measurement system. As a problem solved in O(n) polynomial time, we achieve a reduction of up to 207,900 % in computational time, when compared with the resolution via metaheuristic with \(O(n^{3})\).
