Abstract

Abstract A 5-year study in south Alabama indicated that the best initial stocking and survival of longleaf pine can be achieved by advance control of understory hardwoods and brush, and thinning to an overstory density of 20 to 40 square feet. Seedling survival and growth can be enhanced by overstory removal at age 1.
