Abstract

The Human Settlements Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe held its ‘18th Meeting of Experts on Human Settlements Problems in Southern Europe’ in Nicosia, Cyprus, between 6–8 June 1994. The key theme of discussion was the problems and prospects of planning for a more sustainable tourism industry in countries in the Mediterranean region. Delegates to the meeting were primarily national government officials concerned with the planning and management of natural and human habitats in the Mediterranean basin.
