Abstract

Urban mobility has become a matter of concern for most of million sized Indian cities. Rapid urbanization, rapid motorization and alarming rise in share of private vehicles, unregulated parking norms have led to severe road congestions, deterioration of air quality and road safety and as a result other related socio- economic problems. The main objective of the paper is to analysis the issues related to urban mobility, with focus on Kolkata through graphical and statistical analysis and propose some of the sustainable planning approaches to improve the traffic conditions prevailing in Indian urban areas.
