Abstract

In 1974, the British Gas Corporation began discussions with the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Harwell on the possibility of developing equipment for the inspection of the underground natural gas transmission network. This paper deals with the management environment in which the project was set up, the R&D programme and the production of the final equipment.
