Abstract

Global dynamics pose diverse challenges to global production networks. Boundary conditions change rapidly due to internal and external change drivers, requiring the historically infre-quent production network planning to evolve to a continuous process of planning and controlling of migration. This paper illustrates how to optimize migration planning in production networks via a rolling, proactive and holistic process with soft-ware tool support. Seven steps allow to continuously plan and realize the conversion of the as-is production network state into a target network state with regard to the internal and external dynamics and interactions. The method involves describing and establishing the required data set, evaluating the steps to be performed in the migration and an optimization of a migra-tion path and its scheduling. The approach is implemented in a software tool and introduced with an exemplary industrial production network.
