Abstract

The study describes and analyzes a statewide project to plan, design, and implement an ongoing training network for inservice education of professionals and practitioners working in the field of aging. Specifically, the state agency on aging, through its planning and contracting process, attempted to establish and strengthen the communication and interactive relationship among the various agencies working with the elderly and with educational institutions and their personnel. The development of an ongoing statewide system of interorganizational relationships has proven effective in bridging the gap between the acquisition of knowledge and the application of that knowledge in the delivery of services and the development of policy. Although this study describes only the training program of the state agency on aging, its success suggests its applicability to training in other fields in human services.
