Abstract

The Urban Planning (UP) transformation guidelines promoted by the Habitat Program within the framework of the New Urban Agenda (NUA) constitute one of the most influential international lines of action in our field of knowledge. From the research, the features of a new model are outlined as a response to the need to reform the traditional model. However, it is clear that our contributions make sense in teaching since that new knowledge is essential in the training of future Planners. In Mexico, research results demonstrate the stationary nature of UP and the responsibility to move towards a training model which responds to the needs of new urban spaces. We have recently restructured the syllabus in the School of Urban and Regional Planning, whose disciplinary innovations are derived from research experiences. Thus, our goal is to share this experience of curricular innovation highlighting the contributions of research in the theoretical formation of the substantive core. To evaluate the formative pertinence in this field starts from recognizing the theoretical and methodological gaps in the teaching of Planning in our School, and in this sense, an exercise of contrast is made between the disciplinary fundamentals of UP and the knowledge acquired from the analysis of selected Learning Units programs. Innovations of theoretical base incorporated in the current syllabus are highlighted in coincidence with the pretensions of the model that is promoted within the framework of the NUA.
