Abstract

(Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand. 2022;101:1026–1032) The rates of cesarean delivery (CD) have climbed worldwide over the past 3 decades. While the increased risks of serious complications associated with CD compared with vaginal delivery (VD) have been well described, there is a lack of information on the risks and benefits of CD without medical indication, or “CD on maternal request.” This study compared the rates of short-term complications, including postpartum thromboembolism and infections, with planned, requested CD compared with planned VD.
