Abstract

A novel, low-profile cavity backed slot antenna is proposed. The antenna consists of a thin equilateral triangle substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity with a single radiating slot at upper edge which is fed by a grounded co-planar waveguide (GCPW) to excite the TE110 mode. Measurement results indicate that the antenna achieves a good gain of 6.36 dBi and low cross polarization level, which shows that this antenna retains good radiation performance of conventional cavity backed antennas. Besides, the planar antenna possesses the attractive characteristics including light weight, low-profile, simple structure, easy to be fabricated with low cost and convenient integration with planar circuit.
