Abstract

Intuitive understanding of what may seem a simple mechanical problem can often be misleading or hard to predict. The examples described here clearly illustrate the working principle of turbines and centrifugal pumps, as well as the energy transfer that happens simultaneously. Furthermore, these examples are also well-suited to educational purposes to improve understanding of the principle of energy and angular momentum conservation.
