Abstract

This article describes a novel design of planar circular tag antenna for use in the ultra-high frequency (UHF) radio-frequency identification (RFID) system. By introducing T-arc-shaped strips and parasitic strips, the measured half-power bandwidth of the proposed circular tag antenna can be about 115 MHz (848 ∼ 963 MHz), which includes the entire operating bandwidth (860 ∼ 960 MHz) for worldwide UHF RFID system. Meanwhile, with unidirectional reading pattern, the measured reading distance is about 3.8 m. Good tag sensitivity is obtained across the desired frequency band.
