Abstract

Plagiochila caulimammillosa sp. nov. of section Zonatae Carl is described and illustrated. It is related to P. semidecurrens (Lehm. & Lindenb.) Lindenb. and appears to be endemic to Yunnan, China. It is characterized by its stem surface being distinctly mammillose all around, by its stems with enlarged outer cortical cells each with a strongly convex outer wall and occasionally interspersed with 1–3-celled paraphyllia, its leaves are broadly ovate with a long decurrent dorsal base and its perianth is long and cylindrical with a narrowly winged dorsal keel on its basal onethird. The unique feature of the stem readily separates this species from all other Plagiochila species hitherto known. A key to the known species of section Zonatae in E. and south-east Asia is provided.
