Abstract

In Hypericum calycinum and Hypericum cv. “Hidcote” supernumerary ovules are borne on top of floral axis in between normal ovuliferous placentas. In view of gynoecium morphology and vascular anatomy they are believed to be stachyosporous. Stachyospory, however, is but a peculiarity limited to some ovules in some plants, and by no means entails a reassessment of the classical carpel concept.
