Abstract

Single Wire Earth Return (SWER) system with long transmission line is introduced as one method for low cost remote electrification. Long transmission line and load growth can makes voltage regulation a concern. Distribution STATic COMpensator (DSTATCOM) as a voltage support equipment in SWER system with ability of injecting or absorbing reactive power is proposed. In this paper the placement of DSTATCOM in terms of voltage support effectiveness is studied. Particularly, the voltage boost due to installing DSTATCOM at the network side in transmission level or customer side in distribution level is analyzed. Two case networks are developed, using MATLAB, to study the performance of voltage support equipment in different locations.
