Abstract

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) can impair esophageal peristalsis and can also cause a lack of relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, leading to esophageal dilation. The aim of the present study was to determine the improvement and/or elimination of megaesophagus after gastric banding by laparoscopic band removal and simultaneously Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB).
