Our speech-language pathologists, occupational therapist and preschool teachers decided to help the children expand their interest in food and serving it, so we provided them with lots of materials including books, toys and real food. We made pizza out of felt and had a pretend pizza party with the kids and the monkeys in group and individual sessions. The children loved making pretend pizza and then real pizza in treatment. We worked on initiating social contact, serving peers, sharing, spatial concepts, sequencing and descriptor words. The most noticeable thing was the increased social interaction in the groups. About me: I work in a private clinic in San Jose, and am fascinated by all things speech and language and the science behind it. When I am not working, I make treatment materials and spend time with my 1-year-old son. With Christine Caldejon, my friend from graduate school at Washington State University, I post speech- and language-related articles on www.thespeechchicks.com. Christine works in the Everett (Washington) schools, but her passion is blogging and creating materials for The Speech Chicks. thespeechchicks The Speech Chicks Author Notes Sanaz Amini, MA, CF-SLP, THESPEECHCHICKS.COM Advertising Disclaimer | Advertise With Us Advertising Disclaimer | Advertise With Us Additional Resources FiguresSourcesRelatedDetails Volume 19Issue 5May 2014 Get Permissions Add to your Mendeley library History Published in print: May 1, 2014 Metrics Downloaded 112 times Topicsasha-topicsleader_do_tagleader-topicsasha-article-typesCopyright & Permissions© 2014 American Speech-Language-Hearing AssociationLoading ...
