Abstract

ABSTRACT A wideband cross polarization converter with the pixelation approach for X, Ku, and K bands has been presented in this paper. The polarizer consists of copper FR4 combo patched pixels on an FR4 substrate backed by copper. The pixels arrangement on the meta-atom yielded polarization conversion ratio (PCR) >0.9 over a wide frequency range from 10.15 to 27.6 GHz. A broadband FWHM bandwidth of 19.87 GHz is observed for PCR which ranges from 9.26 to 29.13 GHz. The physical mechanism of the linear polarization conversion is analyzed by the spatial profile of the electric and magnetic fields. Further, to validate the simulation results a prototype of the metasurface constating of meta-atom has been fabricated. A good agreement between the experimental and simulation results has been observed. The designed metasurface when integrated with antennas can be extensively applied for diverse microwave applications for polarization manipulation devices.
