Abstract

The interaction between water spray and fire plume is one important aspect of the water-based fire protection process. As part of a planned plume-spray interaction research, this work provides baseline test data for numerical models to simulate the free hot air flow impinging on a horizontal ceiling. Laser-based particle image velocimetry (PIV) was used to acquire the spatially resolved velocity data. For three hot air flows with different exit velocities but constant temperatures, the measurements of mean velocity and turbulent velocity are presented in detail for the flow region above the hot air nozzle and under the ceiling.
