Abstract

Surgical management of pituitary adenomas continues to be a safe and effective method for dealing with many of these lesions. The goal of overall management should be to provide long-term control of this benign but potentially disabling disease. The history and application of surgery to the management of pituitary disorders, as well as the preoperative evaluation, technique of surgery, and surgical results, are discussed. Attention is given to complications of surgery and adjunctive forms of management of pituitary lesions.
