Abstract

ABSTRACT Pituitary responsiveness to aqueous vasopressin has been shown in four patients with congenital vasopressin-resistant diabetes insipidus with plasma cortisol rises greater than 4 μg/100 ml following a 10-unit im dose. Current evidence suggests that ACTH release occurs through a cyclic AMP mechanism. Thus, we have observed an extra-renal system in which the vasopressin-adenylate cyclase-cyclic AMP response sequence appears to be intact.
