Abstract

Abstract A pitch controller is developed for a wind turbine in a small island's autonomous power system. The proposed controller regulates wind converted power to meet the assigned system constraints while extracting optimum energy from wind. Wind turbines associated with the proposed controller enable one to get rid of the usual practice of limiting the maximum permissible penetration of wind converted power into the power system. A small wind-diesel power system on Koshikijima island in Japan is considered for the model studies, and the effectiveness of the proposed controller is proved by a computer simulation based on the actual wind speed data.
